A £3.1 million project to transform the site of an empty former hosiery factory into a 72 bedroom care home in Hinckley is complete and welcoming its first residents.
The building of ‘The Ashton’ has provided residential, nursing and dementia care for the elderly living in the area and will enable them to remain living close to friends and family.
The project has been completed by Wynbrook Design & Build, based in Radcliffe on Trent, for Magnum Care. The scheme began in June 2013 and has taken 13 months to complete. It is the biggest care home that Wynbrook has completed and has recently been selected as a finalist in the large residential category of the 2014 ProCon Leicestershire awards.
The four storey nursing home reflects the history of the site and the materials used have ensured that building aesthetics compliment the surrounding area. Internally, areas are colour coded and lounges named after historical hosiery companies to help dementia sufferers recognise their surroundings.
Other facilities include en-suite shower facilities in every room, with assisted bathing facilities on each floor for those who require assistance. There are also nursing stations, consulting rooms, clinics, a hair salon, modern commercial kitchen and laundry, a dedicated staff room and file store to ensure patient records and medication are accessible yet secure.
