The Westlands Care Home in Four Marks in Hampshire is letting residents hug their families by installing a Cuddle Curtain. The plastic curtain has arm holes in the top for a family member and in the bottom for the resident.
The care home has avoided any cases of COVID-19 but manager Helen Brown is aware of how a lack of physical contact can have a negative effect on residents. Hugs have not been permitted since mid-March.
“Families enter by one gate and have their temperature taken. Their loved one comes in and the plastic curtain allows everyone to hug without risking coronavirus infection,” she says.
