Independent care home operator Eastleigh Care Homes is to begin work on a new development to build a new 61-bed home at Sampford Peverell, backed by a £18 million finance package from Santander Corporate & Commercial. The development will create 95 to 110 jobs in the local area once fully established.
The funding package has been agreed following specialist work on the project from independent banking consultancy Balance, and accountants Mark Holt & Co.
The new development, which is on the site of an old pub on the edge of Sampford Peverell, will include a state-of-the-art care home for the elderly, specialising in dementia and bariatric (obesity) care. This is believed to be the first specialised care facility for obese patients in Devon. The site will also house a GP surgery and pharmacy, providing GP and prescription services for the local community.
Eastleigh currently manages three care homes which offer residential, nursing and complex dementia care across North Devon and Somerset – in South Molton and Minehead – providing 181 beds for elderly care in the region.
The work is expected to start in September this year.
