Accredited inspection pilot programme announced

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is calling for participants in a pilot assessment programme for the accreditation of care home inspections. The scheme is for organisations that perform inspections of residential adult social care providers and aims to improve standards of care.

Participants will be assessed by UKAS against the international standard ISO/IEC 17020:2012. This sets out general criteria for impartiality, competence and performance capability of inspection bodies.

Lal Llan, said.  “One of the key objectives of the pilot programme is to verify the appropriateness of the standards used for inspection and their application in the inspection of care homes. The objectives and terms of the pilot project will be discussed with key stakeholders and those organisations expressing an interest to participate in the pilot programme.

“On satisfactory completion of the UKAS assessment process, successful applicants will be accredited to the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 17020 standard.  This will provide a clear market differentiator to accredited organisations that perform inspections of residential adult social care providers and help generate confidence in the standards and quality of care.”

Organisations wishing to express an interest in participating are requested to contact the UKAS Development Coordinator by 29th November.
