Health care products do not have to look clinical and can actually boost a resident’s mood if they are design-led.
This is the message from Platinum Health and Beauty founder and managing director Nicky Pearson who noticed a gap in the market for uplifting and comforting products such as mobility aids and waterproof bed lining that burst with colour.
“The health and care sector has to get away from grey and white and brighten up people’s lives and their environment,” she says. “Using colour can calm residents and make them less anxious.”
For example Platinum Health and Beauty’s 100 per cent Waterproof Bedding, which is ideal for anyone with sensitive skin as well as being a practical solution for incontinence, comes in three designs. Each has a specific purpose.
- The Pink Peony Collection uses a vibrant yellow and delicate peony motif to uplift and inspire
- The Blue Swallow Collection has a calming influence by using soft blues and a repeat print of birds in flight
- The Yellow Water Lily Collection has water lilies and dragonflies designed to comfort a restless mind.
The ambitious company sells direct to care homes as well as via retail and it is expanding its sales team.
“Care home managers often think they have to pay more for comfortable and colourful materials but this is not the case,” says Pearson. “We have also had a lot of interest from international customers and will soon be selling on the Ideal World TV shopping channel.”
