Staff at Laurel Lodge in Norwich, have organised a reunion date night for two of their residents who had not been able to hold hands for four months due to COVID-19.
Resident, Phyllis had been at the home throughout the pandemic. Her husband, Derek, recently moved in to join her after previously doing weekly socially distanced visits.
Having missed their 66th wedding anniversary due to the pandemic, staff organised a romantic dinner for the couple in the care home, complete with love heart garlands hung from chandeliers, balloons and rose petals.
Staff members also provided musical entertainment for the evening. They took the resident couple on a musical journey through some classic love songs, as well as getting them to sing along.
Ashleigh, a carer at Laurel Lodge who came in on her day off for the evening said: “I could be at home right now watching TV and sitting in my dressing gown, or I can come here and make them smile”.
