Care home visits suspended in Wales

Visits to Welsh care homes have been suspended due to a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in some areas of South Wales.

Following the recent local coronavirus restrictions in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport, friends and families will no longer be able to visit residents in indoor or outdoor visits.

Compassionate visits are excluded from this suspension.

389 positive coronavirus cases and two deaths were reported in Wales on Wednesday 23 September, 93 of which were reported in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Total new coronavirus cases in Wales rose by 2,263 between 7-20 September.
