Care provider organisations call for essential visits from March 1

Care providers have joined older people’s representatives to jointly call for essential visits to care homes to open up to meaningful indoor visits by Monday 1 March.

“Getting back to a position where everyone can receive meaningful indoor visits is a matter of safety, common decency, and fundamental human rights,” states a joint statement by six organisations.

“If we delay any longer, many residents will have waited more than a year to see and touch their loved ones. This is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to continue.”

The organisations call for priority for visits from essential caregivers, whom they describe as “more than ‘just’ visitors”.

Individual risk assessments and relevant PPE and testing should be available to these visitors to enable  essential visits to take place.

The signatory organisations are:

  • Registered Nursing Homes Association
  • The National Care Forum
  • Age UK
  • John’s Campaign
  • The National Care Forum
  • Relatives & Residents Association
  • Rights for Residents
