To support Nutrition and Hydration Week, Care UK has published a booklet on hydration, which is free to all care homes.
Produced to support this week’s Nutrition and Hydration Week, the booklet covers every aspect of hydration from why older people are more likely to suffer from dehydration to how to create safe drinks for people who have problems with normal swallowing. Recipes include garnished flavoured waters, mocktails, strawberry iced tea and fruit puree drinks. There are also tips on serving water-rich foods, for example, a ripe tomato (94 per cent water), cauliflower (87 per cent) and melon (90 per cent).
The booklet has been written by Care UK’s hotel services team, managed by James Clear. He said: “Every single person working in our homes has a role to play in ensuring that people living there are properly hydrated.”
The booklet has been distributed to all 124 Care UK homes. Guides to hydration can be downloaded free of charge.
