Scottish Parliament debates the use of Gaelic in care homes

The use of the Gaelic language in Scottish care homes has been discussed in a debate about the Scottish Languages Bill.

The Bill aims to give the Gaelic and Scots languages official status in Scotland and makes changes to how Gaelic and Scots are supported in Scotland. This includes changes in relation to Gaelic and Scots education

Responding to SMPs during the Stage 1 discussion of the Bill, Joanna Peteranna, area manager for the Outer Hebrides with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said: “Where we need to get to [is] the ability for different places to make their own plans and set their own metrics but then be held accountable for delivering them.”
