Lib Dems promise £5bn a year for social care

Reforming social care is one of the biggest challenges facing the country and a major priority for the Liberal Democrat party, its leader Sir Ed Davey has pledged at the party’s autumn conference in Bournemouth.

A care package worth £5bn a year is at the heart of the party’s plans for social care, which were announced at the conference which started on Saturday 23 September.  Previous policies for social care have centred on staff wellbeing.

In 2020, the Lib Dems promised a package of support for social care workers including a universal mental health support service, ‘occupational health passport’ and promoting mental health first aider roles in every workplace.
