Welsh older adults living in care homes are to receive a spring Covid-19 booster jab, following expert recommendations.
As a precautionary strategy, the Welsh Government has accepted recommendations from vaccine committee the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) to offer a spring booster for the following groups:
- adults aged 75 years and over;
- residents in a care home for older adults, and
- individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in table 3 or 4 in the Green Book).
Available data from the UK and internationally continues to suggest older people are at the highest risk of experiencing severe disease if infected by Covid-19. The recommended vaccines are Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA XBB.1.5.
