New GP Connect white paper supports access to GP medical records

The Care Software Providers Association (CASPA) has published the GP Connect white paper to support data sharing between GPs and social care.

The paper describes the reasons why social care providers should access residents’ medical records, as well as progress and challenges to data integration.

The report notes that more than 1,035 sites and 2,917 authorised social care professionals are currently accessing GP records on a regular basis for the benefit of 48,283 care receivers. This proof-of-concept pilot confirms a universally positive response to the initiative.

Digital Social Care publishes an Assured Supplier List of solutions that can support access to GP records.

A representative of the CASPA Board said: “Access to GP Connect is now helping care providers work more efficiently, and the logical outcome of this is likely to be a better use of time and resources, improved decision-making and increased job satisfaction and retention among the care workforce.”

CASPA adds that other data-sharing projects between health and social care are now being considered.
