The Department of Health and Social Care has new information for care homes admitting residents to a care home during COVID-19 document.
Annex K: Moving from the community into a care home provides a service model for testing people moving from the community into a care home and is intended to supplement existing local arrangements. Successful existing local arrangements should not be disrupted.
The information applies to asymptomatic individuals moving from the community into an adult residential care home unless otherwise stated.
The document includes the following new information for care home managers:
- Measures to be taken prior to admission into a care home
- Isolation strategies for both COVID-19 positive and negative individuals
- Conducting tests on admission
- Urgent admissions
Care homes are not required to admit a new resident to the care home. If appropriate isolation/cohorted care is not available, the care home manager should ask the individual’s local authority to secure alternative appropriate accommodation.
