Care England calls for national oversight of ICS digital plans

NHS England should have national oversight of each ICSs’ digital make up to ensure foundations such as interoperable health and care data systems are in place. That is a recommendation of a new Care England report Empowering the Care Sector’s Digital Journey: A Path to Improved Care and Sustainability.

In the report Care England sets out its vision for digitised care that “produces tangible outcomes to support the sustainability of all services”.

The report makes several recommendations for ICS to support an optimal digital journey:

  • ICS leaders should seek to include an adult social care representative on the ICP or the ICB to represent the views of adult social care providers
  • Ringfenced national funding for ICSs and greater autonomy on how funding should be used to sustain health and social care
  • Social care market assessment by ICS and overseen by the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England
  • Government should develop a national, long-term ‘Adult Social Care Workforce Strategy’.
