ECCA welcomes funding reform

ECCA has warmly welcomed the intention set out in the Department of Health consultation ‘Caring for Our future’ that direct payments in residential care will be rolled out in April 2016.

Professor Martin Green, chief executive said: “We have long campaigned for people to have the right to spend their direct payment in long term residential care and we are delighted that this choice will now be available to people from April 2016. There is no reason why people should not have the choice to spend their direct payment in this way if they wish.

“We will work closely with the DH in supporting the ‘trailblazer’ councils looking at the practicalities of implementing this policy change.”
