ECCA welcomes increased NHS contribution

ECCA has welcomed the announcement that the NHS contribution towards the costs of a place in a care home with nursing is being increased by 1 per cent for 2013-2014.

The funding is for people in a care home who have been assessed as needing the help of a registered nurse.

Professor Martin Green, Chief Executive of ECCA said: "Whilst welcoming this news we must get the assessment of rates and the announcement into a fixed timetable for future years. The announcement needs to be made in February to give providers
time to notify residents and do the necessary cost adjustments prior to 1 April.

”In addition there should be an agreed review of the rates in partnership with independent sector providers so that there is a clear understanding of care home costs before any decisions are made by the Department of Health on the rates.”
