All front-line health and social care workers will again by offered a free flu vaccine in what is being described as the most comprehensive flu programme in UK history.
This year, the Department of Health and Social Care will deliver around 30 million flu vaccinations, including, in England, to the following groups:
- People who are on the Shielded Patient List and members of their household
- People aged from 50 years (initially, over 65s), pregnant women, those with pre-existing conditions including at-risk under 2s
The NHS will contact people directly, including information about where to go to get the vaccine.
Last year, England failed to reach World Health Organisation targets of 75 per cent vaccination coverage in the over-65 age group (72.4 per cent). Among healthcare workers with direct patient contact, the vaccination rate was 74.3 per cent.
Public Health England is urging people to protect yourself, to protect the NHS and your loved ones, from flu.
