Covid-19 has had a truly terrible impact on society, and nowhere has this been more evident than in our care homes.
As the lockdown began, Gateway PPT felt hugely motivated to try and do something to help tackle this terrible pandemic. They were also very aware of the strain on our nation’s care homes, with no visitors allowed and with huge challenges for staff and residents to try and avoid transmission.
They quickly realised that additional lines of defence were needed to help reduce transmission and allow us to live our lives as normally as possible. So they decided to use their skills and experience as one of the UK’s leading mechanical engineering firms, to create the very first British sanitisation system, the Gateway PPT.
The Gateway PPT works by sanitising people who walk through it – a little like an airport scanner – beginning with a thermo imaging camera to take the person’s temperature and then using controlled, odourless, dry-misting of a treated water-based solution to disable bacteria and viruses such as COVID-19. The solution used is called Hypochlorous Acid, which is entirely safe to use and is produced naturally by our bodies to fight infections.
In just five seconds, the Gateway provides full-body cover, ensuring that a person entering the environment has no virus or bacteria on their skin or clothes.
The measure provides an additional line of defence to existing measures and Gateway believe it can help care homes to further reduce the transmission of COVID-19. The Gateway can help ensure staff are safe to enter, while also increasing the possibility of hosting outside visits from family members of residents.
The Gateway PPT has been installed in 10 care homes including Peverel Court Care, and is already on order with a further twenty care homes.
As we approach the winter and the inevitable continuing rise in infections, be it COVID-19 or other viruses and infections, Gateway believes it is imperative that care settings continue to take every possible precaution. The Gateway PPT provides staff, residents and their families with the additional peace of mind that everything is being done to protect against the transmission of COVID-19.
