Care homes warn Chancellor of ‘catastrophic collapse’ over living wage

Councils to benefit from £1bn social care windfall

Councils in England are to receive an extra £1 billion for social care in a provisional local government finance settlement worth a total £64bn.

The deal also allows councils to increase council tax by up to 3 per cent without a local referendum plus add an additional 2 per cent for those responsible for adult social care services.

A final local government finance settlement will be announced following a consultation open until 15 January 2024.
