Get round the ICS table, NACC conference urged

“Social care needs to be at the table of new Integrated Care Systems”, said Liz Jones, policy director of the National Care Forum.

Speaking at today’s National Association of Care Catering Training and Development Forum, she said that ICS will become the new vehicle for delivering Department of Health and Social Care plans for in England. “Social care needs to be round the table,” she said.

ICS, which went live from July 1, will be funded to take forward plans for digital transformation of social care. These include ambitions for social care such as 80 per cent of care providers using digital social care records and more than 20 per cent with falls prevention technology in place by March 2024.

In her presentation, she also updated NACC delegates about the political parties’ plans for social care announced at the recent party conferences.

Labour is committed to sector bargaining arrangements and fair pay deals for social care and NHS equivalent pay scales, more stringent regulation of financial management and quality in care, and more scrutiny of commissioning, she said.

At the Conservative conference, ministers were also focused on increasing transparency in care home financing.
