Johnson letter: act now to solve social care crisis

Care Home Management magazine editor Ailsa Colquhoun is among those to sign a letter to new prime minister Boris Johnson.

Drafted by Health for Care, a coalition of national health organisations led by the NHS Confederation, the letter demands urgent government action on the care crisis.

Health for Care asserts that around 1.4 million older people in England cannot access the support they need. Furthermore, that there are 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia – a figure that will increase to more than one million by 2025.

The letter tells Johnson that previous efforts to reform social care by successive administrations have failed, and that with political will and determination, action could be successful.  “Given the urgency of this matter, we would welcome a meeting soon to discuss how we can support your efforts to deliver reform,” the letter concludes.
