Care homes focused on infection control are looking at new ways to clean the lifts they use for moving and handling.
These high traffic areas are ripe for new technology and in future care homes will invest in contactless buttons and voice-controls.
“Until then air purification or sanitising technologies are the option. These can also be retrofitted,” said Sean O’Sullivan, managing director at Platform Lift Company.
Air purification is designed to work in conjunction with normal cleaning procedures. The air within an enclosed space is circulated through a process of disinfection and purification.
The system is activated using biological recognition technology. The air is purified from the moment someone enters the lift until they exit.
Alternatively, there is professional lift sanitising using UVC ultraviolet LED light.
“When commissioning a new lift, antimicrobial technology can be incorporated into buttons at the manufacturing stage,” said O’Sullivan.
