The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued official guidance on best practice to help care homes recognise and investigate long COVID and rehabilitate residents with the condition.
The condition can last for weeks, with symptoms such as generalised pain, fatigue, persisting high temperature and psychiatric problems.
In addition, according to the ONS, around 20% of people aged over 70 will suffer COVID symptoms for more than five weeks. Research is continuing into how many people of all ages across the UK are suffering from long Covid.
The NICE guidelines include advice on how to help residents with self-management of the condition, including setting realistic recovery goals.
