MHRA issue fake LifeVac alert

Care homes are asked to check their anti-choking device after fake LifeVacs have been discovered in the UK.

Medicines and devices regulator the MHRA highlights that legitimate products will carry a valid UKCA or CE mark. The only two brands registered with the MHRA are LifeVac and Dechoker.

Care homes are asked to view images published by the MHRA to compare legitimate and fake LifeVac devices. Fake devices may pose a significant risk of worsening choking if used.

Care homes should dispose of any fake devices found and report the incident to LifeVac Europe Ltd and to the MHRA via our Yellow Card scheme website, providing information on where you purchased the device.

When purchasing anti-choking devices, users may check that the device’s manufacturer is registered with the MHRA via the public access database.
