The National Care Association has created a template letter urging local politicians to support care homes with energy costs.
The NCA calls on care homes to contact every local politician to emphasise the urgency of action.
The letter explains that social care and support providers have seen rises in energy costs of over 400 per cent, which is described as “unsustainable”, given the workforce pressures on the sector. The letter says: “The current energy price rises present a very severe risk to the sustainability of care services in your constituency.”
Care homes are asked to campaign for the following:
- residential energy cost support measures to extend to people living in care homes
- local authority ring-fenced direct funding to all care and support providers struggling with their energy costs
- energy regulator to include care settings in the domestic price cap.
Care homes are asked to email the NCA with a copy of their letter, so these can be forwarded to the new prime minister.
