The DHSC has announced a new £120 million fund for local authorities to boost staffing levels in social care.
Staffing funding will support the following:
- provide additional care staff
- support administrative tasks
- overtime payments or by covering childcare costs
The new money is in addition to a £149 million testing grant, announced in December, which is ringfenced for lateral flow device testing in adult social care.
Local authorities will be required to pass on 80 per cent of this funding to care homes on a per beds basis, with 20 per cent used at the local authorities’ discretion to support lateral flow device testing.
Additional lateral flow devices should test individuals working in more than one setting before the start of every shift.
Chief Executive of the National Care Forum Vic Rayner said: “The funding announced and confirmed today is welcome news, but must be subject to continuous review.”
- In an update of COVID-19 vaccination in care homes issued on January 17, the DHSC said that around 40 per cent of people aged 80 and over and a quarter of older care home residents have received their first vaccine dose. The ambition is to have all care home residents and staff vaccinated by January 24
