New smartphone messaging system helps care home staff respond to alerts

Staff can respond quicker to alarms and communicate with family members more effectively using a new smartphone messaging platform from GHM Care.

Called Nexus Care it enables staff to receive alarm notifications from any call system directly on to their smartphone, removing the need to run to a wall-mounted console to discover the severity of an alarm.

Instead alerts are colour-coded and displayed according to priority and then accepted or escalated directly from the smartphone.

GHM Care director Simon Hayler says Nexus Care will improve response times and create a quieter environment for staff and residents.

“Care home staff are faced with so many challenges including improving response times, communicating with family members and reacting to alarms from multiple devices,” he says. “Nexus will connect to your existing nurse call system regardless of its age.”

To comply with security and privacy regulations patient information is never stored on the staff smartphones.

Nexus Care also provides management reports including response and clear times per resident, household and building statistics.
