Three care home team members have received British Empire medals in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list.
- Sonia Jacqueline Parnell, pictured, manager and owner, Liberty House Care Home, Erdington, nr Birmingham, for services to vulnerable adults
- Dorothy Irene Curr, for services to Tor and Manor Grange Nursing Homes, Edinburgh
- John Frederic Parvin, visiting assistant, The Royal Star and Garter Homes, for voluntary service to veterans.
Liberty House Care Home offers residential care for adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities Among the achievements contributing to the New Year’s honour, is the home’s social enterprise, “Community Flow”, providing wellbeing activities to the wider community, and its work in partnership with Midland Mencap and other support services. The home is also actively involved in the Mosaic Mentoring programme, mentoring students in schools and colleges in the Midlands, and with the National Careers Service, a government initiative which supports young people with their future careers in health and social care.
Ms Parnell told Care Home Management: “The recognition is great. I am honoured that people are so impressed by what we do here.”
She says she will place her medal in the home once it is presented in the summer at Buckingham Palace.
