Nursing regulator the Nursing and Midwifery Council has launched a consultation on proposed changes to the English language requirements for registered nurses.
The consultation is open until 12 August and takes the form of an online survey.
The consultation aims to enable the NMC to address concerns that its current English language requirements are fair and reliable. There are two key areas for review:
- approach to testing
- use of other evidence of English language competence. This might include employer references, evidence of unregulated practice in UK health and care settings, or postgraduate qualifications that people have studied in English.
