Figures on the number of unexpected deaths and serious injuries in care homes for people with learning disability and autistic spectrum disorders have been published in Parliament.
These show a six per cent increase in the number of serious injuries and a 17 per cent reduction in unexpected deaths between 2018 and 2019 (the most recent year for which full year figures are available).
The answer, provided by care minister Caroline Dinenage to Catherine West, Labour MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, does not indicate whether a notification relates directly to someone with a learning disability or autism, only that the location has the Service User Band of ‘Learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorder’. A location may have more than one Service User Band.
