Care homes in south-west London have trialled a new eRedBag, which offers digital information to support emergency hospital admissions.
The RedBag is the mechanism used to support urgent referral from a care home to hospital. The standard was published by the Professional Record Standards Body in November 2020 to improve the experience and quality of care experienced during an emergency hospital transfer.
The eRedBag pathway is being trialled in South West London to provide hospital care teams with easily accessible electronic data about the health and social care status of the resident.
Evidence suggests multiple benefits including improved experiences of people receiving care and staff experience, better digital security, shorter length of stay in hospital, as well as significant long-term system savings.
Care home staff report reduced administration and stress in an emergency situation, and fewer missing information requests from the hospital.
