Some 34 per cent of section 42 enquiries related to care homes in England during 2021-22, new data from NHS Digital shows.
The statistical release states that during the year there were 147,930 concluded S42 enquiries, of which 51,025 were related to residential care. In total, 161,925 S42 enquiries were started, which represents a 6 per cent rise on the previous year.
The data shows that the most common type of risk in Section 42 enquiries that concluded in the year was Neglect and Acts of Omission, which accounted for 31 per cent of risks. The most common location of the risk was the person’s own home at 48 per cent.
In total, there were an estimated 541,535 concerns of abuse raised during 2021-22, an increase of 9 per cent on the previous year.
