Scotland updates national dementia skills programme

The Scottish Government has published an updated framework for dementia care by health and social care staff.

Promoting Excellence 2021: A framework for all health and social services staff working with people with dementia, their families and carers updates the 2011 publication, to include new research on preventing dementia, laws, including the Carer’s Rights (Scotland) Act; and the 2018 human rights-based Standards for Health and Social Care.

The framework is divided into four levels of increasing dementia skills:

  • Dementia Informed Practice Level
  • Dementia Skilled Practice Level
  • Enhanced Dementia Practice Level
  • Expertise in Dementia Practice Level.
