Social care sustainability and workforce development set out in NHS Recovery Plan

New programmes for social care sustainability and workforce development have been announced in a new NHS Recovery Plan.

Key elements in the new plan include the National Centre for Sustainability for Health and Social Care (CfSD), which aims to maximise use of effective technology and new treatments. From the autumn, Scotland will also unveil a National Wellbeing Programme  and develop recruitment opportunities through the national Young Person’s Guarantee.

For dementia, the Government pledges to improve post diagnostic support.

Announcing the plan, Humza Yousaf, health and social care secretary admitted that the pandemic has exposed and exacerbated deep-rooted health and social inequalities. “We will act to mitigate these and ensure that services are provided in a way that is proportionate to need. The framework that we take forward will focus on how to best support those that are most vulnerable (socially and clinically) in our society.”
