The former Education Secretary under Margaret Thatcher, Lord Baker, has called upon the next prime minister to provide more backing for care homes.
In outlining a seven point plan for whoever takes over from Boris Johnson, Lord Baker demanded more help for the care of the vulnerable. He wants to see more careworkers, even from overseas, recruited. He wants them to be paid better, and calls for a stop to the closure of care homes.
Above all, Lord Baker is calling for a reset of policies. At the top of his list is is a demand for Brexit to be made to work.
“We should not fall out with Europe by rejecting the Northern Ireland Protocol. Common-sense should tell you that it is barmy to enter a conflict which you cannot win,” said Lord Baker.
