Unions have won full coronavirus sick pay for at least 15,000 care workers employed by Four Seasons Health Care (FSHC).
FSHC will also advise all those staff who have tested positive for covid-19 that they will receive full pay backdated to April 2020.
The company is also in discussions with the unions over the use of the £600m infection control funding and will continue talks on how they can improve working conditions for more staff.
Kelly Andrews, GMB Social Care lead, said: “Carers across the country have been struggling on statutory sick pay whilst battling this virus. And now they have at least some protection.
“GMB is calling for full sick pay across the social care sector so that our vulnerable are protected, not just now but always.”
Gavin Edwards, UNISON Senior National Officer, added: “The government has asked employers to grant full sick pay for all covid-19 related absence Many are still failing to deliver. This increases the financial pressure on carers to keep working and so the virus keeps spreading.”
