Care charity Vegetarian for Life (VfL) Veggie Care Chef of the Year is Attila Volosinovszki from the Cinnamon Care Collection.
Also scooping this year’s award for the most innovative veggie dish was Juan Lopez (right) of Avery care home Birchwood Grange for his vegan lemon panna cotta with blackberry-basil coulis.
The 2023 Awards for Excellence in Vegetarian and Vegan Care Catering recognised 12 rising stars in vegetarian and vegan care catering. The theme for this year’s ceremony was ‘Sustainability in the Care Sector’, and proceedings commenced with talks and workshops on environmental sustainability in care catering.
Among other winners in this year’s awards were:
- Veggie Wholesaler of the Year: Bidfood
- The Beulah Charity Trust Special Recognition Award: HC-One Catering & Housekeeping Support Service Team.
The HC-One team were celebrated for their commitment to older vegans and vegetarians. Over the past year, 1,030 staff across the organisation have signed up for Vegetarian for Life’s Memory Care Pledge – consisting of five good practice points to ensure that vegan or vegetarian residents experiencing capacity issues or cognitive losses will be offered a choice of meals, drinks and snacks that uphold their ethical beliefs.
First launched in 2016, the Annual Awards highlight the importance of catering well for older vegetarians and vegans.
