NHS Volunteer Responders are now available to care home providers

The NHS Volunteer Responders Programme is to expand into social care, offering providers including those in care homes access to three new volunteer services:

  • Check in and Chat Plus: contacting people who have been identified as particularly vulnerable to offer a friendly voice and alleviate loneliness
  • Pick up and Deliver: helping to transport medicines or small items of medical equipment from NHS sites to aid discharge from hospital or continued healthcare support
  • Community Response: collecting and delivering food shopping and essential items as well as prescriptions and medications to people in the community

The programme is jointly delivered by the Royal Voluntary Service via the GoodSAM app and information is available online via NHS and Care Volunteer Responders Supporting Health and Social Care.

Recruitment is open for Community Response and Pick Up and Deliver roles. Adult social care providers can now refer people in receipt of adult social care in for friendly Check In and Chat phone calls.
