‘Silent’ ratings for Welsh care homes will start in June

‘Silent’ ratings for care homes will now start in June, the Welsh regulator has said.

The delay to the ratings is due to factors including pressure on providers highlighted in the recent full annual return for the sector.

From June 2023 to the end of January 2024 ‘silent’, ratings of inspections of care homes and domiciliary support services will be made, but remain unpublished. The aim of this phase will be to assess the inspectorate’s consistency in applying ratings as well as the impact on service providers and inspection teams.

The plan is publish ratings for care homes and domiciliary support services within inspection reports from April 2024.
